Michael Gary Grimes

Michael Gary Grimes

Michael Grimes was the beloved son of Peter and Myra Grimes. Professor Peter Grimes was the founding Director and Chair of the Criminal Justice Department from 1966 until his retirement in 1999.

On July 10, 1980, Michael along with his best friend Billy Lewis were killed while playing at the pool in the Nassau County Park in Wantagh. At the young age of ten, a deranged driver intentionally crashed a motor vehicle into the refreshment stand. The unfortunate experience deeply touched Peter and Myra who then decided to establish this scholarship to memorialize Michael.

As a former Professor and Chair at Nassau Community College, Mr. Peter and Myra Grimes felt the need to create a legacy motivated by the love for their son, Michael.

Students who indicate an interest in pursuing a career in one of the many service disciplines (Criminal Justice, Nursing, Social Work, etc.) are encouraged to apply for this heart-felt scholarship.
